Shoal Lake must be one of the most beautiful places on earth. It’s home to Manitoba Pioneer Camp. One of my oldest and best friends, Nathan Rempel is the camp director and for the inaugural year of a new off-season program at the camp, he invited me to come and teach on a text of my choosing.
This was a really special weekend in a really special place. I’m so thankful to the participants who took this 1,500-year-old book so seriously, asked such good questions, and willingly recited poetry out loud.
So apparently taking a professional interest in late-ancient and medieval philosophical literature can result in spending a weekend on the lake discussing poetry and the meaning of life.
